Hello, my friend!
I hope you’re having a lovely week. I’m currently enjoying a delicious goat cheese and pesto sandwich from Sprouts and sipping on this morning’s iced (no more ice left, however….) coffee. The company that makes the sandwich is called Izzio, and I’m now officially their biggest fan. Such. Delicious. Sourdough. BREAD!!!
Anyway, nothing gets me more excited in grocery hauls lately than new healthy (healthiER) bread finds, adaptogen drinks, and iced coffees (surprise, surprise!). As far as adaptogen drinks go, my two favorites du jour are from Moment and Juni.
In writing news, I’ve sent Ring of Wishes off to a small army of early reader/reviewers; if you’d like to “enlist,” there’s still time! Just shoot me an email and let me know.
Here’s another sneak peek:
Marie, and his marriage to her, felt so good, so pure, so perfect, that he feared Aphrodite had cast some sort of love spell on Marie, poisoned her with an aphrodisiac that had compelled her to fall in love with him. The goddess, genie, witch, whatever she was, hadn’t disclosed the details surrounding her method of matchmaking. What if she’d observed him making eyes at Marie that night on Ralph’s porch and shot her with a love arrow? (He thought he recalled one of the Greek gods, the one that looked like a fat baby, flying around, causing mischief with such things.)
That would take the “true” out of true love, wouldn’t it? Of course it would. Which was why Chess found himself restless once again, and ruing the day he’d met Aphrodite and let his greedy human nature get the better of him. He’d been no better than Eve the day that silver-tongued serpent slithered across her path and tempted her with that juicy forbidden fruit.
Actually, he’d been worse. He’d had Eve’s story to serve as a cautionary tale. He should have known better than to listen to some ancient kooky spirit and then let her meddle in his life. He should’ve remembered what happened to Adam and Eve: evicted from paradise. Forever cursed.
Alrighty, time for this week’s Top 4!
I admit, I have a bit of a confirmation bias when it comes to coffee. And if you do too, you’ll love learning the following about the most popular drug on Earth.
“Writing in The Journal of Nutrition, researchers from Tufts University said they looked at the coffee-drinking habits of 46,332 Americans between 1999 and 2018, when they were part of the U.S. government’s National Health and Nutrition
Examination Survey.
“They had three big findings:
- First, drinking one cup of coffee per day was linked to a 16% lower risk of death for any of the participants over the study period, from any cause.
- Next, drinking more coffee was linked to an even slightly better result; for example, study participants who drank 2-3 cups per day had a 17% lower risk of “all-cause mortality.”
- Finally, the benefit only applied to black coffee.
“Adding cream or anything beyond a very small amount of sugar resulted in study participants having the same all-cause mortality rate as people who drank no coffee at all.”
PEOPLE MATTER
“Yes, one should always bear in mind, when dealing with other people, that God became man on their account. To think that one feels too good to condescend to many of them! What arrogance! Where on earth did I get it from?” – Sophie Scholl of the WWII White Rose Resistance
TODAY’S THE DAY!
“Today might be the best chance you have to take action. The longer you wait, the more deeply embedded you get in your current lifestyle. Your habits solidify. Your beliefs harden. You get comfortable. It will never be easy, but it may also never be easier than it is right now.” – James Clear
I hope you found those useful and/or inspiring in some way! Due to it being 4th of July week next week, I won’t be emailing, but I’ll be back in a few weeks! I hope you and your family have a fantastic Independence Day celebration. And if you’re not from the States, well then I hope next Friday is just extra grand
.
